California Bay-Area
"Comparative Philosophy" Conference

Call for Papers/Participation

The Center for Comparative Philosophy, together with Department of Philosophy, at San Jose State University, California, USA, will sponsor and host a Bay-Area conference on comparative philosophy, on April 25, Saturday, 2008.

The conference has two main purposes: (1) to provide a critical-discussion forum to explore comparative philosophy understood in a broad, constructive way; (2) to provide the interested colleagues in the Bay-Area with an academic exchage opportunity to know each other and be familiar with each other's relevant work.

For the first purpose, the conference will focus on two subjects: (1) to explore how distinct approaches from different philosophical traditions and/or from different styles/orientations of doing philosophy can constructively engage each other to jointly contribute to the common philosophical enterprise; (2) to inquire into general theory and methodology of comparative philosophy. The format of the conference is that of one-day workshop which is to consist of colloquium sessions and roundtable discussions.

To serve the second purpose, the conference will be accompanied with a show of the Bay-Area colleagues' recent academic works related to comparative philosophy. The conference participants are encouraged to bring copies of their recent works to the conference scene.

Papers (or their detailed abstracts) for consideration of their presentation and critical discussion at the conference may be submitted electronically (as a MS Word attachment) to Bo Mou at bo.mou@sjsu.edu by 1st February 2009.

All interested scholars, students and others (either residing or traveling) in the Bay area are welcome to attend the conference.
