Bio:
S.D. Noam Cook’s current areas of interest include ethics, applied philosophy, philosophy of technology and Japanese philosophy. His publications, research and consulting interests focus on social and technological change, the relationship between knowledge and practice, and applied values issues. His work in applied philosophy has entailed involvement with several academic and professional fields, including education, social work, business, public policy, creative arts, and various areas of science and engineering. He has given invited presentations on his work for academic, industrial and governmental institutions in the US and abroad, including MIT, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Leiden University in The Netherlands, the University of Westminster in London, MITRE Corporation, Xerox research centers in the US, UK and France, the national government of The Netherlands, and various US federal agencies. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from San Francisco State University, and a Ph.D. from M.I.T. After receiving his doctorate, he spent two years on the research staff of Harvard Business School doing research and curriculum development in the area of Business Ethics. He was for ten years a consulting researcher at Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Center). Since 1997 he has been a member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. He received a BA and MA from San Francisco State University and a PhD from MIT.
