Nationalism and Comparative Political Cultures

 

Description:

The course is a comparative exploration and analysis of the origin, nature, and impact of nationalism on the politics of Western and non-Western states. Students will examine case studies in which nationalism result- ed in conflict, with particular emphasis on the use of terror to promote or defend the interests of an ethnic group. Also developed will be an appreciation of how everyday things, such as street names, can be points of contention between competing cultural groups.
