The BA in Political Science provides students with an understanding of politics and the political process and prepares them for their lifelong responsibilities as citizens, as well as furthering their skills in critical analysis and communication. The major in political science may lead to a wide variety of careers, including teaching, law, business or public service.
Only a few specific courses are required for a BA in Political Science - students are allowed to choose from a variety of courses so they may focus on areas of politics that interest them most or fit best with their career goals. What is a focus?
These are groups of courses the Political Science faculty advise you to take if you choose to specialize in any one particular part of Political Science. Your degree will be in Political Science, however, the name of the focus will not appear on your transcripts or diploma. While completing a focus may be useful for some students, there is no requirement to do so. Simply satisfying the normal requirements for the major will earn you a BA in Political Science, and will give you greater flexibility in scheduling your courses.
