Vice President of Administration and Finance/CFO
Charlie Faas Appointed as VP of Administration and Finance/CFO
Charlie Faas has been appointed as vice president for Administration and Finance and chief financial officer (CFO) effective this June 1. He will serve on the President’s Cabinet and report directly to President Papazian.
A seasoned financial executive with three decades of progressive, diverse private and public sector experience, Charlie most recently served as CEO of the USA Pavilion at Expo Milano, a non-profit organization selected by the State Department to ensure a visible, strong U.S. presence at the 2015 World’s Fair in Milan, Italy.
For ten years prior to that, Charlie was Executive Vice President and CFO for Sharks Sports & Entertainment, the business enterprise of the National Hockey League’s San Jose franchise, also serving on the executive board of the team’s non-profit foundation. In these capacities Charlie interacted closely and productively with many local and regional partners, including the City of San Jose. He has also held senior roles in financial management with numerous entities in Silicon Valley and New York, including IBM.
As a candidate, Charlie demonstrated a unique mix of finance and business acumen, strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, and established relationships with regional leaders. These attributes will be extremely important as our campus addresses its critical capital and resource needs.
The Silicon Valley Business Journal named Charlie “CFO of the Year” in the private business category in 2008. Since 2005, he has served as an adjunct professor in the graduate sports management program at the University of San Francisco. He and wife Joanne (a Spartan alumna, ’93) live in the area with their three children. He actively volunteers on behalf of various educational and minority-opportunity programs.
