Dr. Chandler is currently senior associate provost at Kent State University. As senior associate provost, Dr. Chandler works closely with the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs to provide leadership in performing needs assessment, developing strategic objectives and university-wide policies and procedures aimed at promoting student success and fostering academic achievement.
Prior to his appointment as senior associate provost, Dr. Chandler had held the position of dean of the College of the Arts (formerly the College of Fine and Professional Arts) since 2004. He was formerly the associate dean, College of Fine and Professional Arts, from 2001-2004. He has been a professor in the School of Exercise, Leisure and Sport at Kent State University since 2001. He has also taught at Syracuse University and been a visiting lecturer in the School of Physical Education, Sport and Leisure at De Montfort University, Bedford, UK.
He is co-editor with Tara Magdalinski of With God on their Side: Sport in the Service of Religion and co-editor with John Nauright, of Making Men: Rugby and Masculine Identity and Making the Rugby World: Race, Gender, Commerce. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Sports History Review, and International Sports Studies.
Dr. Chandler graduated with a Ph.D. of Education/Sport History and an A.M. of History from Stanford University. He earned a M.S. in Physical Education from Dalhousie University and a B.Ed. in English & Physical Education from Loughborough University.
