VP for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer

TO: Campus Community

FROM: President Jon Whitmore

I am pleased to announce that William B. Maguire will be San Jose State University's first vice president for information technology. He will also be our chief information officer. Mr. Maguire brings to campus over three decades of relevant experience. He will report directly to me, beginning Monday, June 8.

Mr. Maguire will manage central computing and infrastructure operations while leading a new campuswide initiative to review and realign San José State's information technology services. In this capacity, he will also serve as an active participant in SJSU's strategic planning process.

Given our location in Silicon Valley, I believe San José State should serve as a leader in the innovative and meaningful use of information technology to foster educational and academic rigor, in addition to facilitating university operations and business processes.

Mr. Maguire is well prepared to lead these efforts. Most recently, he was vice president and chief information officer for Virgin America, where he was responsible for building out the new airline's entire IT infrastructure.

He has also served as senior vice president and chief information officer for Aspect Communications, vice president and chief information officer for Legato Systems, and vice president of emerging business operations for Amdahl Corporation. His career began at the U.S. Postal Service, where he managed computer operations. Read Maguire's biography.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all faculty, staff and students who participated in the selection process by serving on the search committee, attending candidate forums, and submitting comments to us. Your hard work resulted in our hiring a highly qualified candidate.
