SJSU Football Coach Dick Tomey, San José Mayor Chuck Reed, San José Councilmember Sam Liccardo, Associated Students of SJSU President William Vosa Cavu-Litman and Whitmore addressed the crowd. Here are the president's remarks.
"This event is important because as educators, we are committed to modeling and encouraging civic engagement among our students. We provide information so that our students are knowledgeable enough about the issues to make informed choices, and motivated enough to make a difference in their communities and for society at large. This event is more than just motivating those of you who haven't already registered to register here today, but it's meant to encourage you to participate in the election process by voting on November 4 -- and letting these be the first steps in a lifetime of voter participation and civic engagement."
