Go Spartans! Beat Nebraska!
Thursday, September 4, 2008
When Spartan football pulled off a last-minute victory last week against UC Davis, President Whitmore was there to cheer on the team. He can't make it to this weekend's away game against Nebraska, but you know he'll be there in spirit.
"Last Saturday night, I attended my first Spartan sporting event: football. It was a beautiful evening. Spartan Stadium was full of avid fans wearing gold, blue, and white. The first half was a real struggle, with the Spartans trailing by ten points at half-time. During the second half, however, the Spartans turned the game around. The defense toughened, and the new spread offense came to life and scored with only moments left in the game to achieve victory. There are lessons to be learned watching student-athletes in action. Saturday night's lesson was this: have faith in yourself and your team, and never give up. What the team and Spartan fans now know is that as long as there is time on the scoreboard our football team will give it their all to achieve victory. We should be proud of Coach Tomey and our student athletes."
