Acting President Carmen Sigler

California State University Chancellor Charles B. Reed has appointed Provost Carmen Sigler acting president of San José State effective July 1, 2008, until the arrival of incoming president Jon S. Whitmore on August 1, 2008.

Sigler joined the faculty of the Department of Foreign Languages at San José State in 1987. She served as chair of the department prior to being appointed associate dean and acting dean of the College of Humanities and the Arts. Following a national search, Sigler was appointed dean in August 1998. She also served as interim vice president for University Advancement in 2002/2003. She has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs since November 2004.

Sigler earned her Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literature at the University of Michigan. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the same institution. Sigler brings a solid background in teaching, research, service and administration to this new role.
