Subject: University Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Plans

Attached are copies of San José State University's "Policy Statement on Non?discrimination and Affirmative Action for Support Staff and Administrators," and "Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Plan." These are issued in accordance with the requirements of Federal Executive Orders 11246 and 11375 as amended; Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended; Title IX of the Education Act of 1972; Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974; Equal Pay Act of 1963 as amended; Age Discrimination Acts of 1967 and 1978; and other applicable Federal statutes. The policy statement and plan also conform to Executive Order 340, issued by the Chancellor of The California State University on April 21, 1981. The portions of the Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Plan pertaining to academic employees are in conformity with San José State University policies S80-2 and S81-12, as well as all of the per?tinent Federal statutes and executive orders.

The statistical information referred to in the Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Plan is being distributed by the Vice Presidents and Dean of Student Services to division heads and deans. The goals and timetables contained in the Plan will be adjusted annually, in accordance with the best available data. Please examine those portions of the document that pertain to your department or division, and be prepared to discuss appropriate updating for 1983/84 with Sam Henry, our Affirmative Action Coordinator, with your dean, vice president, or myself.
