Subject: Revision of Policy on Fingerprinting of Employees
On August 11, 1982 the Office of the Chancellor announced that the CSU requirement to fingerprint all new employees was abolished and that in the future the decision to fingerprint or not to fingerprint would be delegated to each campus president.
It is my decision to eliminate the fingerprinting requirement at San José State University except in those few campus areas where the nature of the job makes it essential to have the background information that can be provided only through a fingerprint check. In these instances I delegate the decision making authority to Academic Vice President Burns, Executive Vice President Evans, or Dean of Student Services Martin.
