September 2, 1982

To: All University Employees
From: President Gail Fullerton
Subject: Power Shutdown

The cable break which caused the power outage earlier this week will require some major repairs in order to minimize the inconvenience to faculty, staff, and students, I have arranged for the repair work to take place during the period from noon on Friday, September 3, 1982, through the weekend. The repair crew will make every effort to have all buildings back in operation for Tuesday morning classes. The buildings involved are Duncan Hall, MacQuarrie Hall, Sweeney Hall, and the South Garage on Seventh Street.

Executive Vice President Evans has recommended, and I concur, that because of safety concerns MacQuarrie Hall and Sweeney Hall be closed to all faculty, staff, and students for this period. Duncan Hall, which has auxiliary power, doesnot pose a problem of the same magnitude. Therefore, some classes will meet, some offices will remain open. Please check with the Dean of the School for specifics. We regret the inconvenience to everyone, but we have little in the way of acceptable alternatives at our disposal.

Community Relations will provide the local media with updates during the weekend and Monday.
