PD-1986-03
September 22, 1986
To: Deans, Department Chairs, and Division Heads
From: President Gail Fullerton
Subject: Office of Equal Employment Opportunity
and Affirmative Action
Effective October 10, 1986, the Affirmative Action Office will become the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action, in recognition of the functions that this office is in fact performing at San José State University.
The Affirmative Action Officer will have his title changed to Director of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action (Director of EEO-AA). I know long titles are cumbersome, but it is sometimes necessary to convey clearly the function of an office or position by the title.
In recognition of the growing workload of that office, I am transferring Ms. Beverly J. Miles from the Grants and Contracts Office to be Assistant Director of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action. The responsibilities of this new position will include, but not be limited to, investigation of charges of gender-based discrimination, including sexual harassment.
These changes will be effective October 10, 1986.
The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action is located in Wahlquist Library Central 307, 277-2710.

President Gail Fullerton San José State University
Dear President Fullerton:
While it is certainly true that I have been seeking suitable alternative employment within the university as a result of last October's reorganization of the Office of Sponsored Programs, this new assignment is more than I could have hoped for.
I am pleased and deeply honored to have been assigned to the post of Assistant Director of EEO. Your confidence in my ability to serve in this new capacity is greatly appreciated. With Dr. Samuel Henry's able direction and mentorship, I hope to serve this university well.
Thank you, President Fullerton, for this fine opportunity.
Sincerely,
Beverly J. Miles, Grant
Development Officer
