Associate Vice President (AVP) for Academic Budgets and Planning Appointment

Marna Genes

Message was originally sent to the Academic Affairs Division on 8/12/14:

Dear Colleagues,

After consultation with the Academic Affairs Leadership Team (AALT) and the Senate Executive Committee, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Marna Genes as Associate Vice President for Academic Budgets and Planning.

In this role, Marna will oversee fiscal administration, institutional analysis, enrollment, and planning in the Division of Academic Affairs. She had served Academic Affairs since last April as interim Vice Provost for Academic Budgets and Planning, working broadly and effectively with the academic affairs leadership team and colleagues across SJSU.

As you may know, I earlier announced the intention to conduct a national search to fill this post. Based on Marna's highly effective efforts over the last several months and input from others, I am confident that our campus is well-served by this appointment.

After earning her master’s degree and sitting for the CPA exam, Marna joined San Jose State in 2010 as university budget director. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in economics from UC Santa Cruz and a Master’s degree in accountancy from SJSU, and has more than two decades of experience in higher education budget and financial management.

Marna has already taken steps to ensure that Academic Affairs' planning, budgeting, and resource allocation processes are transparent and efficient. I look forward to her future contributions, and hope you will join me in congratulating her as she assumes this important role.

Sincerely,

Provost Andrew Hale Feinstein signature
