Marna Genes was appointed as the AVP of Academic Planning and Budgets in August 2014. Her primary responsibilities include managing the Academic Affairs Division budget and serving as SJSU’s Enrollment Planning & Reporting Officer. She served in an interim capacity from April 2014 to August 2014, before accepting the permanent position. She is actively involved in the Provost’s strategic plan with an emphasis on Educational Excellence and Student Experience.
Genes joined the Academic Affairs Division from SJSU’s Administration and Finance group, where she served as the director of Budget and Risk Management from 2010-2014. She has worked in higher education budget and financial management for more than 20 years, including 12 years with the University of California and three years with University of the Pacific. Outside of work, Genes is an avid backpacker and flyfisher.
Genes holds a BA in economics from UC Santa Cruz and an MS in accountancy (MSA) from SJSU.
