What is Honors Convocation?
The Honors Convocation is an annual celebration in which San José State University recognizes its undergraduate students from all disciplines who have earned the designation of President’s Scholars or Dean’s Scholars.
It is by invitation that students are invited to participate in the Honors Convocation. The invitation to participate is typically sent in late March. The Provost, Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Studies, and the deans of each college present awards to the student honorees.
What is a President's Scholar?
A President’s Scholar is an undergraduate student who has earned a 4.0 grade point average at San José State University in at least two contiguous semesters of the three semesters prior to the Honors Convocation.

What is a Dean's Scholar?
A Dean’s Scholar is an undergraduate student who has earned a 3.65 or higher grade point average at San José State University in at least two contiguous semesters of the three semesters prior to the Honors Convocation.

When and Where is the Honors Convocation?
The 52nd Annual Honors Convocation will be held in the San José State University Event Center at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, April 25, 2014.
The academic procession will begin promptly at 6:00pm and doors will close at that time to allow the festivities to begin. For late arrivals, the doors will reopen at approximately 6:10pm.
Where is the Event Center located?
The Event Center is located on the corner of South 7th and San Salvador streets.
Where can honorees and guests of the event park their vehicles?
Complimentary parking is available to honorees and guests at the South and West Parking Garages. No parking passes are required. Plan to arrive early to allow time for parking. Due to a number of construction projects on campus, there are many fences and barriers around the Event Center Arena. Please inform your guests to be prepared and arrive early.
When should I arrive?
Registration and doors will open at 5:00pm. Arrive early to allow time for parking and check-in.
When and where do I RSVP?
Online RSVP ends Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Registration is now closed. If you did not make the RSVP deadline or do not plan to attend, your certificate will be mailed to the address listed in your MySJSU.
What if I have graduated?
If you have graduated, you are still invited to attend.
What if I am unable to attend this event? How can I get my award certificate?
If you are not able to attend, your certificate will be mailed to you after the event. If you do not receive it within a month of the event, please contact your college office.
Where is the Office of the Provost located?
The Office of the Provost is located in the Administration building, room 174. The Administration building is located on the north side of campus, on the corner of 7th and San Fernando Streets.
What is the protocol for honorees at this event?
Upon arrival, honorees must check in with an event staff member at the registration table. You do not need an ID, just provide your full name and you will receive your honors certificate. You will then be ushered to your seat where you will be seated with your college.
Entrance for honorees will be through the mail lobby of the Event Center. All other family members and guests will enter the Event Center from the second level. Wheelchair and elevator access is located on the first floor of the Event Center main lobby (same entrance for honorees).

What is the suggested attire for the event?
Business casual is the suggested attire.
Will there be any food or drinks served at the event?
Light refreshments will be provided to all persons in attendance immediately following the ceremony.
How will the seating be arranged?
Honorees will be seated separately from their family and guests. Honorees will be seated on the main floor and family and guests will be seated in the tiered seating. Please make arrangements for children to be seated with friends or relatives.
How long will the ceremony last?
The ceremony will last approximately 1 hour.
How many guests can I invite to the Convocation?
You may invite as many guests as you like, however, we will need to have a headcount to ensure that sufficient seating and refreshments are available. So, please RSVP by the deadline.
Is there a charge to guests to attend the event?
No. The event is free to all honorees and their guests and tickets are not needed by guests to attend the ceremony.
Is photography allowed?
Personal photographs may be taken before and after the ceremony. No one is permitted in the aisles during the ceremony.
Photos and video of the ceremony will be posted online approximately 1 month after the event. DVDs are not available for purchase at this time.
