What is Honors Convocation?

The Honors Convocation is an event at which San José State University recognizes its students who have earned the title of President’s Scholars or Dean’s Scholars.

 

What is a President's Scholar?

A President’s Scholar is an undergraduate student who has earned a 4.0 grade point average at San José State University in at least two contiguous semesters of the three semesters prior to the Honors Convocation.

 

What is a Dean's Scholar?

A Dean’s Scholar is an undergraduate student who has earned a 3.65 or higher grade point average at San José State University in at least two contiguous semesters of the three semesters prior to the Honors Convocation.

 

When and Where is the Honors Convocation?

The 51st Annual Honors Convocation will be held in the San José State University Event Center at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, April 26, 2013.

 

Where is the Event Center located?

The Event Center is located on the corner of South 7th and San Salvador streets.

 

Where can honorees and guests of the event park their vehicles?

Complimentary parking is available to honorees and guests at the 4th and 7th Street Parking Garages. No parking passes are required.

 

When should I arrive?

You should arrive 45 minutes prior to the event to allow time for parking and check-in.

 

When and where do I RSVP?

Online RSVP ends Friday, April 12, 2013.

 

What if I have graduated?

If you have graduated, you are still invited to attend.

 

What if I am unable to attend this event? How can I get my award certificate?

If you are not able to attend, your certificate will be mailed to you after the event. If you do not receive it within a month of the event, please contact your college office.

 

Where is the Office of the Provost located?

The Office of the Provost is located in the Administration building, room 174. The Administration building is located on the north side of campus, on the corner of 7th and San Fernando Streets.

 

What is the protocol for honorees at this event?

Upon arrival, honorees must check in with an event staff member at the registration table. You do not need an ID, just provide your full name and you will receive your honors certificate. You will then be ushered to your seat where you will be seated with your college.

 

What is the suggested attire for the event?

Business casual is the suggested attire.

 

Will there be any food or drinks served at the event?

Light refreshments will be provided to all persons in attendance immediately following the ceremony.

 

How will the event seating be arranged?

Honorees will be seated on the main floor. Family and guests will be seated in the tiered seating. Please make arrangements for children to be seated with friends or relatives.

 

How long will the ceremony last?

The ceremony will last approximately 1 hour.

 

What is the maximum number of guests that I can invite to the Convocation?

You can invite as many guests as you like, however, we will need to have a headcount to ensure that sufficient seating and refreshments are available. So, please RSVP by the deadline.

 

Is there a charge to guests to attend the event?

No. The event is free to all honorees and their guests.
