The University Scholar Series is co-sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the University Library, the Office of Research, Faculty Affairs, and the Spartan Bookstore. This series provides a unique opportunity for showcasing the important research and scholarly activities of SJSU faculty members.

College of Engineering Professors Ahmet Bindal and Sotoudeh Hamedi-Hagh co-authored Silicon Nanowire Transistors. They will discuss the design and fabrication of the new type of transistors and how the transistors will lead the way for the new era of VLSI.

Dr. Shannon Rose Riley will discuss portions of her recent book, Performing Race and Erasure: Cuba, Haiti, and US Culture, 1898-1940, which investigates representations of Cuba and Haiti in US culture in order to analyze their significance to the emergence of empire as well as to the reconfiguration of US racial structures along increasingly biracial lines.

Dr. Rachael French’s research focuses on the toxic effects of alcohol on development in the common fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. She will discuss how Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and related disorders might be mitigated through maternal dietary changes.
