FAQS
- If I applied last year, can I apply again?
Sure!
- If I’ve already participated, can I participate again?
Absolutely!
- Why only Academic Affairs?
Since this is a Pilot Program, it is possible we may run into unforeseen difficulties. For this Pilot Program we wanted to stay within our division, so that any issues could be resolved by the Vice Provost.
- Do I need to get permission from my supervisor in order to participate in the Mentoring Program?
Yes.
- Will mentoring require a large amount of time?
Initially, mentors and mentees meet on a weekly basis for the first month. They can do so at a time that is mutually convenient. After this period of time, groups meet every other week for the next 5 months. Meetings can become creative, for example you do not always have to meet in an office setting, but can instead meet for lunch or discuss issues on the phone.
- When can I start applying? When is the deadline? Where do I turn in my application?
The application is obtained on the first page of the website, and can be emailed to provost@sjsu.edu.
- Will participation in the Mentoring Program guarantee me a promotion?
We cannot guarantee a promotion. However, we hope that by participating in the program, it will help you recognize your own particular strengths, and aid you in developing your network. This may help you figure out what your career path objective is, and possibly help you towards obtaining it.
- What if a situation arises where the mentoring partnerships is unable to continue?
If anytime during the program an emergency or other situation arises that would not allow the mentoring partnership to continue, the mentor or mentee needs to inform their partner first and then inform the Mentoring Program Coordinator. The same process applies if either the mentor or mentee opts to discontinue the relationship.
