Program

In 1982, the American Library Association (ALA) began Banned Books Week to draw attention to the issue of some communities banning certain books. Today, these books include the Harry Potter series, Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and several others. The ALA and many other organizations and institutions believe that individuals have the right to decide what book is right for them to read. The ALA states: "while not every book is intended for every reader, each of us has the right to decide for ourselves what to read, listen to or view."

Test your knowledge of banned books - take the quiz.
