Wednesday 10/3/07 from 11:30 - 2 pm - Public Performance of Ginsberg's Howl and Opportunity to Review Some Banned Books

The student organization -
Poet and Writers Coalition will perform a reading of Allen Ginsberg's controversial poem -
Howl. In 1956, the owner of City Light Books in San Francisco was arrested on obscenity charges for publishing this lengthy poem. He won the trial.

Reading of the poem will take place from noon - 1 pm (note - R rating)

From 11:30 - 2 pm, there will be a collection of banned books for people to take a look at and even sit down and start reading. There will also be information on why the American Library Association (and others) sponsors Banned Books Week each year and why some books are challenged or banned in the U.S. and elsewhere.
