1. Will I have to re-apply if I will be absent for one semester?

No. You will not have to re-apply if you are absent for one semester. Keep in mind that you are required to return after the one semester leave.

Please review "One Semester Leave policy" on  SJSU Catalog by following these navigational steps: click SJSU Policies and Procedures, then Undergraduate Information and Requirements, then Leave of Absence and Withdrawal, then One Semester Leave.

2. How many classes or units do I need to take to maintain my student's status?

You may take at least one class and still remain a student. We do not dictate the number of units in which students may enroll to maintain their status.

3. If I did not attend 2 or more consecutive semesters, what happens to my student status? Do I need to re-apply?

Yes. After stopping out for 2 or more consecutive semesters(Spring and Fall will be counted, not Winter or Summer Session), you have disrupted your continuous enrollment and you will need to re-apply for admission at SJSU through CSU Mentor website. If you have questions about re-applying, please check with your admission coordinator/ evaluator regarding re-submitting your documents.

4. This is my first term at SJSU and I cannot attend, what will happen to my status?

If you do not attend SJSU in your first term of admission, your status will be cancelled. You will need to re-apply through CSU Mentor website to attend SJSU in a future semester.

5. How do I request a leave of absence? What is SJSU policy regarding this?

There are 3 types of leaves: health related leave, military leave, and planned educational leave. Please review the Leave Request form & its instructions carefully. This form is interactive, you can type on it.

Please also review University Policy regarding Leave of Absence on SJSU Catalog  by following these navigational steps: click SJSU Policies and Procedures, then Undergraduate Information and Requirements, then Leave of Absence and Withdrawal.

6. How do I formally withdraw from SJSU? I will no longer attend the university.

There is no form required to withdraw from our University. If you are not enrolled for 2 or more consecutive semesters, your student status will be cancelled automatically.

However, if you are currently enrolled in classes, you will need to drop all of the classes. If it passed the drop deadline, you will need to submit the Withdrawal from Semester Request(PDF), which is posted on Academic Advising & Retention Services website.

Please review our University Policy regarding Withdrawal from the University on  SJSU Catalog by following these navigational steps: click SJSU Policies and Procedures, then Undergraduate Information and Requirements, then Leave of Absence and Withdrawal, then Withdrawal from the University.
