Where do I check what’s my official major?

You can check your official major on MySJSU --> MyProgress. See below:

I have checked my transfer of credit on MySJSU and I do not see all the courses that I transferred from community college?

If there are discrepancies on your transfer credit report or if your transfer work (transcripts/ test scores) has not been posted email to eval@sjsu.edu.

Can I still apply for graduation if I’ve missed the deadline?

Yes. Apply for graduation as soon as possible.  Please review the section on applying for graduation.

What happens after I submit my Graduation Application?

Once your Graduation Application is received by the Office of the Registrar, your information is entered into our system.  Your application is reviewed in order of date received by the Office of the Registrar. A Graduation Worksheet will be generated and sent to your preferred email in approximately 3-4 months.  The Graduation Worksheet is a checklist of outstanding requirements that must be completed prior to awarding the degree.

How do I know if my Graduation Application was received?

You can check your status on your MyProgress report:

    • Applied – We have received your application and we are processing your Graduation Worksheet
    • Pending – Your Graduation Worksheet has been completed and emailed to you
    • Awarded- Your degree has been awarded

 

I have applied for graduation for but I have not yet received a Graduation Worksheet yet.

 

I have applied for graduation but I have not received a Graduation Worksheet. When will I receive it?

A Graduation Worksheet will be generated and sent to your preferred email in approximately 3-4 months.  In the meantime we recommend that you:

    • Review your GE/SJSU Studies requirements on your MyProgress report on MYSJSU. Log in to MySJSU: go to Student Center -> "Academics" section -> MyProgress, you will see "GE Core Requirements" section.
    • Review your transfer credit on MYSJSU, if applicable. Log in to MySJSU: go to Main Menu -> Self-Service -> Transfer Credit -> view Transfer Credit report
    • Review your major form for major requirements;
    • Review your SJSU transcripts for units earned. See how to view my unofficial transcript on MySJSU?  (Note: A maximum of 70 units from 2-year college(s) can be used towards the degree. This means you must earn a minimum of 50 units at SJSU. )

What if there are changes to my requirements after I have already submitted my Graduation Application?

If there are changes to your major or minor requirements, meet with your major or minor advisor. Do not submit a revised major or minor form unless you are changing your major or minor. 

If you plan to take a course other than what is listed on your major/minor form, please have your major/minor department advisor submit a Substitution Form(PDF).

 

I have received a Graduation Worksheet.

 

My graduation status says “Needs to Finish Pending Work”. What does this mean?

This means that you have been sent a Graduation Worksheet to your preferred email (check spam/trash folders). The Worksheet lists outstanding degree requirements.  “Pending” status will NOT change until we award your degree.

I have question about my Graduation Worksheet. Who can help me?

There are discrepancies on my Graduation Worksheet. What can I do?

Contact your graduation evaluator, see who is my graduation evaluator?(PDF) as soon as possible. Note that graduation evaluators follow the major form to assess outstanding major requirements. 

If you plan to take a course other than what is listed on your major/minor form, please have your major/minor department advisor submit a Substitution Form(PDF).

How do I drop my minor/second major?

If you wish to drop a second major or a minor, submit a SIGNED note with your name, SJSU ID, minor/major to your graduation evaluator. If you do not drop your minor/ major you will be held for those minor/ major requirements.

I already submitted all my graduation paperwork (Graduation Application, major & minor forms). I want to check to see if I am ready to graduate. What should I do?

If you have already received your Graduation Worksheet you will not receive an updated one. You can track your progress by using the Worksheet as a checklist, marking off courses/requirements that have been fulfilled as you approach graduation.

I have checked my transfer of credit on MySJSU and I do not see all the courses that I transferred from community college? I don’t see my test scores for AP/CLEP?

If you have applied for graduation, please take the following steps:

  1. Review your transfer credit carefully on MySJSU. There are 2 ways to view this:
  2. a) Log in to MySJSU: go to Main Menu -> Self-Service -> Transfer Credit -> view Transfer Credit report
  3. b) Log in to MySJSU: go to Student Center -> "Academics" section -> select "transfer credit report" from the drop down menu -> click ">>" icon

Note that not all courses transfer automatically. Please view SJSU Course-to-Course Articulation agreements page for reference.

  1. Ensure that you have submitted official updated transcripts or test scores (AP/CLEP) to SJSU
  2. Contact your Graduation Evaluator. See Graduation Evaluators listed by Major (PDF).

If you have NOT applied for graduation: After submitting your official transcript or test scores (AP/CLEP) from other institutions to SJSU, please send an email with your inquiry to the Evaluation Department at eval@sjsu.edu.

How do I change my graduation date?

If you will not be able to complete all your degree requirements by your anticipated graduation date, the Graduation Date Change (PDF) should be submitted at least two months prior to your anticipated graduation date. There is a $10 processing fee which can be paid online or at the Bursar's Office. The receipt with the form must be submitted to Window R.

 

I have graduated, now what? 

 

Can I go walk in the Commencement Ceremony and finish my courses later?

The Commencement Ceremony in May is intended to celebrate students who have officially graduated the preceding Summer and Fall semesters and students who anticipate graduating in the Spring semester of the current year.

Participating in the ceremony is NOT the same as graduating from SJSU. You will officially graduate once ALL degree requirements have been met. If you have not completed all degree requirements by the end of the term you anticipated in your Graduation Application, you will need to file a Graduation Date Change (PDF).

When do I need to submit my Graduation Date Change Form?

If you will not be able to complete all your degree requirements by your anticipated graduation date, the Graduation Date Change (PDF) should be submitted at least two months prior to your anticipated graduation date. There is a $10 processing fee which can be paid online or at the Bursar's Office. The receipt with the form must be submitted to Window R.  Note that your Graduation Application DOES NOT automatically rollover to the next term.

How will I be notified if I have officially graduated?

You will need to check your MySJSU under unofficial transcript. Once your degree has been posted, it will show that your degree requirements have been completed along with degree conferral date.

How do I know if I qualify for University Honors (Latin Honors)?

In order to qualify for Latin Honors, your SJSU AND Overall GPAs must meet the minimum GPA requirements. The honors notation will be noted on the official transcript and diploma.

To qualify, BOTH the final SJSU and Overall GPAs must be:

    • 3.85 and above Summa Cum Laude
    • 3.70 and above Magna Cum Laude
    • 3.50 and above Cum Laude

Can I take courses after I graduate to improve my GPA?

No. After you have graduated, your undergraduate record is sealed. No changes will be made on the undergraduate record.

My original Diploma got lost. How do I order a Duplicate Diploma?

Duplicate diploma requests are processed bi-weekly and may take approximately at least 4 weeks to receive the diploma.  There is a $10 fee per duplicate diploma.  Download the Duplicate Diploma Request (PDF).

How long does it take to receive a duplicate diploma?

Undergraduate duplicate diploma orders are processed bi-weekly it may take approximately at least 4 weeks to receive the diploma. There's a $10 fee per duplicate diploma.

What are the requirements for the awarding of a Bachelor's degree? LINK TO grad reqs

      • Earn a minimum of 30 semester units in residence - You must earn a minimum of 30 units at SJSU, including 24 upper division units, 12 major units and 9 GE units. A maximum of 24 units of Open University may be applied toward your degree.
      • Earn a minimum of 40 upper division units - You must earn a minimum of 40 units in courses numbered 100 and above.
      • Physical Education Requirement - All students must complete two (2) units of physical activity courses.
      • Earn a minimum of 120 semester units - Some degrees require more than the 120 units. See catalog.
      • Complete your General Education Requirements - See your MyProgress Report on MySJSU
      • Satisfy your major/minor Requirements
      • Maintain a minimum 2.00 GPA - A minimum of 2.00 GPA is required in your SJSU, Overall, Major and Minor coursework.

I want to make sure that my name will be listed correctly in the Commencement Book. How do I review it and make changes?

Your name will appear in the Commencement book exactly as it appears on your SJSU records. Steps below show you how to review and file for a name change:

    1. Log on to MySJSU.
    2. Look at a copy of your unofficial SJSU transcript. Your name will appear exactly as listed at the top of your record. 
    3. If your name is not listed correctly, you must complete a Name Change Request (PDF). NOTE: Name changes must be accompanied by photocopies of legal documentation pertaining to your name change such as court documents or marriage certificate and a photocopy of an original identification card with a recent photo to verify new name such as a driver's license, passport or immigration card.
    4. Submit the Change of Name Form at the Window R at the Student Services Center (SSC).

I want to edit my name on my diploma but can't change it on MySJSU. Can you assist me on the process please?

Students are not able to edit their diploma name on MySJSU. Your name will appear on your diploma exactly as it appears on your transcript. If you would like to edit either your diploma name or your official name on your record, you must complete a Name Change Request (PDF) with the Office of the Registrar.

I recently moved, how do I change my diploma address? I want to make sure it will be mailed to my new address. 

Please logon to MySJSU to edit your "Diploma mailing address" under your "Personal Information".

I have submitted transcripts/test scores but my transfer credit report on MySJSU does not reflect these courses?

Please take the following steps:

I applied for graduation BUT I did not complete all graduation requirements.

I’ve received a Hold Letter and I’ve completed the items listed. Where’s my diploma?

If you have addressed all outstanding items on your Hold Letter, notify your graduation evaluator as soon as possible. Your file will then be reviewed and your degree will be posted, if appropriate. Note that diplomas are printed and mailed on a rolling basis and can take 2-4 weeks to receive after your degree has been posted

I did not receive my diploma or a Hold Letter. What’s the status of my Graduation Application?

Check if your degree has been awarded on your SJSU unofficial transcript.

If your degree has not been awarded, you were sent a Hold Letter via your preferred email(Please make sure to check spam/trash folders).  A Hold Letter lists outstanding requirements. Your degree will be awarded once you complete all outstanding requirements.  Please review the section on degree conferral.
