Variable Waitlist Unit Limit

Last updated 5/8/19

The Variable Waitlist Unit Limit(WUL) process will run nightly to give undergraduate students, enrolled in less than 12 units, the opportunity to waitlist more than the prescribed 5-unit limit. The WUL adjustment will include all matriculated undergraduates enrolled in at least one unit but less than 12. Note: we will continue to use the manual process for graduate students.

The WUL will be based upon the units enrolled subtracted from a baseline of 17.  For example, if a student enrolled in six units on Monday morning, that student would be limited to five waitlist units until the process runs that night changing the WUL to 11 units. The WUL will change each night based on the number of units enrolled as shown in the following example:.

Once enrolled in a minimum of 12 units, the nightly process will revert the WUL back to five units.  This process does not affect courses in waitlist status. They will remain in the student’s shopping cart until the system enrolls them, the student removes the course from the shopping cart, or the waitlist is purged.

Increasing the waitlist unit limit provides greater opportunity for students who wish to maintain full-time status (international students, students with financial aid, California Promise, etc.).
