September 15 – Responsible Conduct of Research

Location: MLK Library, Room 255/257
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

San José State University and the San José State University Research Foundation administrators will provide clarification and updates on important guidelines and requirements applicable to external funding for research, training, and community service programs. The Responsible Conduct of Research discussion will include topics such as data management, financial conflict of interest overview, ethics, plagiarism, the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

October 27 – Financial Conflict of Interest

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

SJSU and SJSU Research Foundation actively encourage and support faculty engagement in a variety of scholarly and creative activities including those with public agencies, industry, and private entrepreneurial ventures. However, such involvements can create an increased risk of financial conflict. This workshop is designed to equip current and future researchers with the critical information they need to avoid real or potential incidents of financial conflicts. Topics will include the identification, disclosure, and management of financial conflicts.

November 17, 2016 – Colleague Collaboration Connection

Location: MLK Library, Room 255/257
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Come meet colleagues at this fast-paced mixer that will introduce you to the amazing variety of expertise and research activities of the SJSU faculty and staff. You will have the opportunity to have brief one-on-one discussions about your research interests and efforts with most attendees in timed intervals. Near the end of the workshop there will be additional opportunities to have longer discussions with potential collaborators to set the stage for moving forward with your successful colleague collaboration connections.

 

December 9 – Managing Your Funded Project

Location: SJSU Research Foundation, 4th Floor Conference Room
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Now that a sponsor has funded your project you are ready to get started, but you suddenly realize you have questions about funds management and project administration. How do I manage my budget successfully? How do I recruit and hire staff for my project? What about compliance issues? Animal subjects or human subjects? Labor laws? How do I obtain travel approval? How do I purchase supplies for my project or pay my vendors? This informative workshop will cover essential elements of externally-funded project administration from beginning to end. Meet the knowledgeable SJSU Research Foundation administrators who will support you throughout the life cycle of your project including members from Post-Award, Accounts Payable, and Human Resources.
