September 17 – Colleague Collaboration Connection

Location: MLK Library, Room 255/257
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Come meet colleagues at this fast-paced mixer that will introduce you to the amazing variety of expertise and research activities of the SJSU faculty and staff. You will have the opportunity to have brief one-on-one discussions about your research interests and efforts with most attendees in timed intervals. Near the end of the workshop there will be additional opportunity to have longer discussions with potential collaborators to set the stage for moving forward with your successful colleague collaboration connections from there.


October 1 – Responsible Conduct of Research

Location: MLK Library, Room 255/257
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

SJSU and SJSU Research Foundation administrators will provide clarification and updates on important guidelines and requirements applicable to external funding for research, training, and community service programs. The Responsible Conduct of Research discussion will include topics such as Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), data management, financial conflict of interest (FCOI), ethics, and plagiarism.

October 15 – Introduction to the SJSU Research Foundation—Focus 
on Pre-Award

Location: MLK Library, Room 255/257
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Each year hundreds of funding agencies partner with the Research Foundation to engage SJSU faculty and other university specialists in basic and applied research, public service and community projects, consulting, and other specialized educational activities. This workshop will focus on how the Research Foundation is organized to help you locate and apply for external funding, and how to explore potential partnerships within the academic community. Learn about the sponsored project life cycle and how the SJSU Research Foundation, University Advancement, and the Office of Research work together to enable and promote externally funded programs. Meet the key staff members from the Research Foundation who can assist you with locating resources for your research and scholarly projects, and learn about the steps in the proposal routing approval process. An overview of SJSU University Advancement is also included in this workshop.

November 19 – Grant Proposal Development—Taking a Bite Out of Forms

Location: MLK Library, Room 255/257
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Come to this hands-on workshop to gain exposure to the most common proposal forms and requirements you will encounter during proposal submittals. Federal, state, and local funders who will provide external funding for your research, scholarship, creative activity, training, community service, or other activities often require the completion of forms or certifications specific to your project. The California State University system also has requirements you will need to know. This workshop will ease the pain of the required compliance by introducing you to the most commons forms and provides guidance from your sponsored programs team to prepare for quick easy completion and information gathering. Whether you are currently working on a proposal or plan to in the future, this workshop is a great one-stop shop on your proposal development path.
