Probation/Disqualification1. How do I know if I am on probation? Disqualified (DQ)?You will receive a letter from Academic Advising & Retention Services notifying you of your probation/DQ status. However, if your cumulative GPA drops below 2.0 you are considered on academic probation. If your SJSU cumulative GPA is below predetermined set limits (based on class level) you will be disqualified from the university. You can verify your GPA and academic standing by checking online at http://my.sjsu.edu/ 2. I’m on probation, what can I do to get off of probation?Attend a probation/DQ workshop provided by the Student Advising Center. Underestimating the amount of work and the amount of time required to reach the necessary level of quality expected, and unrealistic personal scheduling are among the main reasons students’ grades suffer. The formula for determining the amount of study hours can be calculated, Units enrolled X 2 = Study Hours. Review the Academic Renewal policy. 3. What is Disqualification (DQ)?Please see this SJSU catalog webpage for information regarding disqualification from SJSU. 4. How do I get reinstated?Obtain a Petition of Reinstatement . Read and follow the directions carefully. 5. What’s the difference between probation and DQ?Probation = Warning; DQ = Dismissed from SJSU. 6. I took 2 classes for my Program of Study but I did not get B’s, now what?A Program of Study requires two letter grades of a “B” or higher. You have to start the process over. The committee may still approve your reinstatement petition but your chances may be very slight. 7. Do I have to reapply to SJSU after I have been disqualified?Yes, it is the school’s policy. 8. Do I have to choose a major? No, undeclared students can use GE courses for their Petition for Reinstatement. 9. If my semester GPA is below a 2.0 but my SJSU Cumulative GPA is above a 2.0, am I on probation? No, probation status is determined based on your SJSU Cumulative GPA. |
