Andy currently works at the California Institute for Medical Research (2012-2013), where he collaborates with partnered labs in the study of pre-diabetes among pregnant women as well as childhood obesity. He is THEREFORE serving as a research assistant (2011-2013 ) for several professors at SJSU, developing analytical methods for compounds with biomedical applications, and communicating his results through presentations and journal publications. Andy has been a recipient of the Scholars in Science Scholarship (2011-2013) and selected for the Spring Presidents' Commission Scholars Program (2012-2013). Despite her hearing loss and commuter student status, Erin has found ways to be in active participant within the Kinesiology Department and KIN Campus Organizations - including serving as a member of the Student Health Advisory Committee and as a Physical Therapy Aide at the Student Health Center.  Since beginning her SJSU college education in Fall 2011, she has become a two-time award winner of the Sertoma Scholarship for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (2011 & 2012), a recipient of the CSU William Randolph Hearst Award (2012), and featured as a President's Scholar (2013).  As a future healthcare professional, Erin embraces every learning and community opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others! Joy is an undergraduate research assistant and NIH MARC Fellow in the Wilkinson Neuro-physiology Lab, where she investigates the mechanical properties of skeletal muscle tissue. Previously, she Conducted research in the Hristov Lab at Stanford University, where she developed algorithms for 3D ultrasound image reconstruction. In Fall 2012, she received an award for her presentation of this research at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students. In addition to her research, Joy is the SJSU Student Section President of the Society of Women Engineers and at NSF MESA Scholar. Joy Recently Received the Scott T. Jessy Serves as a Writing Specialist at the SJSU Writing Center and as a Graduate Assistant in the English Department. Next year, she wants to work as a Teaching Associate for English 1A. She has of of of of studied abroad in London and traveled Throughout Europe, with plans to visit Japan later this summer. Jessy is pursuing a career as a writer and has completed her first novel. Sophia recently completed a paper on Desirable or Dangerous? The Turban's Sojourn in the American Imaginaire, From the 1830s to Post 9-11, which won the SJSU Research Competi-tion and will be presented at the CSU Research Competition in May 2013.  An active member of two honor societies, Sophia participates in community events search AS La Mesa Verde - a Program that provides backyard gardens for low-income families to aspiring teacher.  She is currently a teacher's aide in a math program designed to help underachieving students per-form at grade level.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, going on hikes, and spending time with friends and family.  Sponsored by the Educational Opportunity Program.
