SJSU Salzburg Scholars | Application

We are inviting applications from interested students to serve as SJSU Salzburg Scholars during 2017-2018.  This is a significant opportunity to broaden your awareness of critical global issues and strengthen your ability to succeed in a complex interconnected world.

SJSU Salzburg Scholars will enroll in a 16-day Faculty-Led Program (FLP) on Global Citizen-ship next summer (June 11-26, 2017) in Salzburg, Austria - a UN World Heritage Site that is located in the heart of Europe at the foot of the Austrian Alps.  The FLP includes a 1-week seminar held at Schloß Leopoldskron, with students from other US colleges and universities, followed by a 1-week session exploring historical and cultural aspects of the region.  After returning to campus, the Scholars will develop and implement a project during the academic year to help globalize San José State University.

SJSU Salzburg Scholars are chosen on the basis of three fundamental criteria: [1] excellence (in terms of their primary roles and responsibilities as students at SJSU); [2] leadership (in terms of their ability to mobilize others and work collaboratively with other students as well as faculty and administrators); and [3] leverage (in terms of their potential for amplifying the impact of their contributions on campus).

We anticipate selecting 12-15 SJSU Salzburg Scholars for 2017-2018 and expect to provide scholarships of $2,000 for each Scholar to help cover the costs of their participation.  Online applications are due by Sunday, November 13, 2016 @ 11:59 PM.  Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to review information about this opportunity at the website for this FLP (, contacting the FLP Faculty Advisor, Professor Bobbi Makani (, or by attending one of the following information sessions:
