San José State University is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, which is the epicenter of the global biotechnology and information science industries. The College of Science is committed to preparing students to succeed in these industries, or to pursue training for teaching, research, or technical careers in our component departments (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics, Meteorology and Climate Science, and Physics and Astronomy). Also part of the college is Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, a world class marine sciences teaching and research center located an hour from campus in Monterey Bay.
The college is committed to the success of all of our students. We provide resources such as an intensive and supportive first-year experiences for entering frosh and transfer students, ongoing academic advising by peers, faculty and staff, and lively student clubs in all departments. Many undergraduates and most graduate students take advantage of the opportunity to participate in research projects with our talented and dedicated faculty.
San José State recognizes that science today is both a global and a multidisciplinary endeavor. Thus, we are working collaboratively with other colleges to provide educational experiences in cutting-edge fields such as bioinformatics, nanotechnology and forensic sciences. The College of Science also plays a significant role in the training of those going on to majors in related fields such as engineering, the digital arts and the health sciences.
The Colleges of Science and Education work together to train the majority of the K-12 teachers in our region. We have forged strong partnerships with local school districts, industry leaders and other area colleges and universities to provide rigorous training for aspiring science and math teachers and continuing professional development and support for those already training the Valley's future leaders.
I am proud of our students, our faculty and staff, and the contributions they all make to the vitality of our region. If you are interested in learning more about the College of Science at San José State, please take a few minutes to surf our website, or request further information at 408-924-4800.
