How To Apply

Applicants interested in SCILL need to:

  1. Apply to graduate studies at San Jose State University through CSU Mentor.
  2. Apply to SJSU Biology Department Master degree or Master in Biotechnology (MBT) programs.
  3. Complete SCILL application package - see below.
    • SCILL Online Application
    • Three completed recommendation forms/letters.
    • A statement of purpose.
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • GRE scores
    • TOEFL – if applicable
    • Transcripts from all universities

Due Dates

Applications to SCILL may be submitted anytime before March 1st prior to the fall academic year of interest. Applications will be accepted until all spots available will be filled. Decisions for the new SCILL cohort will be made by April 30.

Application Procedure

Step 1 - Application Form

Complete and submit the application form and supporting documents to the Department of Biological Sciences.

Step 2 - Recommendation Letters

Three letters of recommendation from previous employers or instructors required. Please have them submitted directly to the Department of Biological Sciences.

Step 3 - GRE and TOEFL

Provide unofficial copies of your General GRE scores (Biology GRE scores will be considered). Applicants whose language of instruction for their higher education was not English are required to provide unofficial copies of TOEFL scores. International students whose language of instruction was English must provide proof from their degree-granting institution.

Step 4 - Additional Documents

Provide:

  • Unofficial copies of all your University transcripts.
  • A statement of purpose.
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • 3 letters of recommendation

What is SCILL?

Stem Cell Internships in Laboratory-based Learning (SCILL) Program provides coursework towards a Master's degree in the Department of Biological Sciences (Master of Arts or Master of Biotechnology) at San Jose State University.

We accept rolling applications from December until March 1st, for the next Fall semester.
