Application Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements and submit the appropriate documentation to the Department of Teacher Education in order to apply.  

Please refer to our "How to Apply" page for more information about meeting each of these requirements.

1. The following must be submitted by the application deadline and will be used to evaluate your application.

  • Applicant Information Form 
  • CSU Mentor Application
  • 2 Sets of Transcripts from each university attended
    • Official Transcripts will need to be submitted to Graduate Admissions
    • A second set of transcripts must be submitted to the Department of Teacher Education (may be unofficial)
  • Subject Matter Competence (SMC) Assessment and Disposition Interview with your Subject Area Adviser
  • On-Demand Writing Task
  • CBEST "California Basic Educational Skills Test"
  • CSET (or waiver, based on CSU undergraduate coursework in select subject areas) 
    • Your Subject Area Advisor will counsel you regarding which CSETs you must take
  • Pre-professional Experience (45 hours) 
  • Letters of recommendation (3) 
  • Resume 

2. The following must be submitted by the end of the first full month after you begin our Program 

Please note that you will be unable to begin student teaching if these requirements are not turned in on time.

It is recommended that you submit these requirements as soon as possible and you may submit them with your application, but they are not used to consider your application for admission.

  • Certificate of Clearance 
  • Current Negative TB Test
    • Must be valid through the expected duration of your program
    • TB tests are typically valid for three years. 


The following must be completed before you are eligible to apply for your Single Subject Credential after completing the program.
