Program Length

Candidates teaching full-time are advised to spread out their course load. If a candidate is required to take subject matter preparation courses, those courses are taken in addition to the units required to complete the Preliminary Credential .Early Completion Option is available to qualified individuals.

Maintaining Good Standing in the Credential Program

  1. To successfully progress through the credential program, individuals must maintain a 3.0 GPA
  2. When a candidate's GPA falls below 3.0 in the professional preparation coursework required for the credential, the candidate is not allowed to enroll in student teaching and may be disqualified from the program.
  3. If a candidate earns a grade lower than 'C' in a course, that course must be retaken even if the overall GPA is 3.0. 
  4. Candidates must earn a minimum of a B in their subject specific methods class.
  5. Candidates whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0 at the conclusion of the Program will not be recommended for the credential.
  6. Candidates who earn a grade lower than 'C' in the same course twice (or 'NC' in Credit/No Credit courses) will be disqualified from the program, and will not be recommended for a credential.
  7. Candidates who fall below 3.0 Semester GPA for two consecutive semesters will be disqualified from the university, and will not be recommended for a credential.
  8. Candidates who have significantly breached standards of ethics and professionalism, or who show poor professional dispositions in the program will be reviewed and may be disqualified from the program.
  9. All decisions regarding disqualification are open to an appeal process.
  10. Candidates who leave the program for more than one semester must file for an extended leave of absense in advance of the second semester away, or they must re-apply to the program. A decision for re-admission to the program will be based on the candidate's performance prior to leaving the program. Candidates who have left the program on academic probration, or with unsatisfactory grades on their academic records (including F's, Withdrawals, Incompletes, or No Credits) may not be re-admitted to the program.

 Note: The student is ultimately responsible for ensuring that requirements are satisfied. Please check with your advisors regularly to ensure that nothing is being overlooked.
