Independence Cohort BrochureSingle Subject Credential ProgramPre service Program at Independence High SchoolProgram BackgroundFor the past ten years, the Single Subject Credential Program has supported an on-site program at Independence High School, a large urban high school with a culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse student population. Each candidate in this program has been prepared to do an outstanding job in phase two student teaching. At the center of the program is the Teaching Academy, a magnet school program for high school students who are interested in careers working with children. Because of the unique relationship between the high school and the university, the program has received a “Quality of Education Award” from the California Council on the Education of Teachers.
