Important terms
CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) - designed to test basic reading, math, and writing skills found to be important for the job of an educator. It is required of all public school teachers in California CCTC (California Commission on Teacher Credentialing) -oversees all matters pertaining to teaching credentials in California. CLAD/B-CLAD Credentials -type of credential that included preparation to work with English Language Learners. CLAD/BCLAD will no longer be issued after June 30, 2003. All credential coursework will include preparation to work with literacy and language development. Credential Student

This office fields questions about California
credentials, distributes Certificate of Clearance packets, and handles final
evaluation of candidate files for application for the Preliminary or Internship
credential. Dispositions - prevailing aspect of one's nature; tendency or inclination to act or respond in certain way. Secondary Education - the department in the College of Education that houses the Single Subject Credential Program, located in Sweeney Hall 301 EDSC- department code for all classes offered by Department of Secondary Education. SSCP - the Single Subject Credential Program of professional preparation at San Jose State. The faculty in this program is comprised of persons involved in teacher education in each of the subject matter preparation programs and Secondary Education STSP -Short-Term Staff Permit available from the employing agency. PIP - Provisional Internship Permit. Available at the request of employing agency. Intern - credential candidate who has a teaching
job and is part of a specially designed credential
program. Official transcripts-
transcripts from a college or university that have been requested and/or
obtained by the applicant and are in the sealed envelope from the institution.
