SM-F08-2, Senate Management Resolution, Procedure for the SJSU Campus Selection of a Member for the Faculty Trustee Recommending Committee

 

Legislative History:

At its meeting of September 22, 2008, the Academic Senate approved the following Senate Management Resolution presented by Senator McClory for the Executive Committee.

 

SENATE MANAGEMENT RESOLUTION

PROCEDURE FOR THE SJSU campus selection of a member for the Faculty Trustee Recommending Committee

 

Whereas        San Jose State University has been directed to select one member for the Faculty Trustee Recommending Committee,

 

Resolved        that the attached procedure determines the SJSU campus selection of a member for the faculty trustee recommending committee.

 

When San Jose State University is being directed to select a member for the Faculty Trustee Recommending Committee then the selection proceeds as follows:

 

1. Any member of the faculty electorate (as per Senate By-Laws 1.11(a)) is eligible to serve and may become a candidate by filing a signed statement that he/she is willing to serve and a statement of interest with the Academic Senate office.

 

2. The candidates shall be invited to appear before the Academic Senate and make brief statements of their respective views regarding the trustee recommendation.

 

3. The faculty members of the Senate (those holding office under sections 3, 4, 5 and 8 of Article II of the Senate Constitution) shall then proceed to choose the member from the candidates by secret ballot.

 

4. Dates and timelines for the nomination and selection process shall be set by the elected members of the Executive Committee. Academic Senate nomination and election procedures shall be followed where not inconsistent with this policy.
