At its meeting of February 28, 2005, the Academic Senate passed the following Senate Management Recommendation presented by Sally Veregge for the Organization and Government Committee.

SENATE MANAGEMENT RESOLUTION
ADDITION TO THE CHARGE OF THE

INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD-HUMAN SUBJECTS

WHEREAS,  The Institutional Review Board-Human Subjects reviews all proposals for human subject research for compliance with local and federal requirements, and

WHEREAS,   Lack of information about its rules and procedures may hinder the research efforts of faculty and students, now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the charge of the Institutional Review Board-Human Subjects be amended by adding at the end a new sentence, as follows:

 

Institutional Review Board -- Human Subjects [CR] -- Facilitates the responsible conduct of inquiry by reviewing all proposals for human subject research to be conducted under the direction of University personnel, including University students; ensures that, before data collection is begun, all appropriate measures have been taken to protect the safety, personal rights and dignity of all individuals and social groups involved as participants in the project. The Board may also provide information to the campus community on IRB-HS procedures and compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
