Whereas,     Since the establishment of the Fulbright program in 1946, over 250,000 individuals have participated in the program1, including faculty and students from San José State University, and

Whereas,     “Many of these individuals have made significant contributions to their countries as well as to the overall goal of advancing mutual understanding1,” and

Whereas,     Senator Fulbright drafted the Fulbright Resolution, adopted in 1943, which supported “an international peace-keeping machinery encouraging United States participation in what became the United Nations1”, and

Whereas,     Senator Fulbright’s vision of building mutual understanding among nations and in support of peace is very much alive in the legacy of the programs he championed, and

Whereas,     2005 is the 100th anniversary of Senator Fulbright’s birth, now, therefore be it resolved

Resolved,     That the Academic Senate of San José State University honor Senator J. William Fulbright and join the world-wide celebration of his centennial year, and be it further
