At its
meeting of September 24, 2007, the Academic Senate passed the following Sense
of the Senate Resolution presented by Senator Kaufman for the Curriculum and
Research Committee.
SENSE OF THE
SENATE RESOLUTION
COMMENDING THE WORK OF THE
INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD TASK FORCE
WHEREAS,
Senate Management Resolution
F05-1 established the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Task Force to review and
suggest modifications to current policy and practice in reviewing use of human
subjects for research at SJSU; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force was asked to submit a report and
suggested policy to the
Academic
Senate by the end of the Spring 2007 term; and
WHEREAS,
the Task Force met over a
period of 18 months to address all aspects of IRB policy and practice,
including holding open fora with the campus community; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force has submitted a high-quality, detailed
and comprehensive
report
and a suggested policy to the Curriculum & Research committee for
presentation to the Academic Senate; and
WHEREAS, members of the committee, especially the Chair and
Co-Chair, continue to
devote
significant time and effort to assist the Curriculum and Research committee in
their deliberations over the revised policy; therefore be it
RESOLVED that the members of the IRB Task Force be commended for
their
exceptional
efforts in producing the report and policy recommendations:
