At its meeting of February 25, 2002 the SJSU Academic Senate passed the following Sense of the Senate Resolution presented by Rita Manning for the Budget Advisory Committee.

 

SENSE OF THE SENATE

ENDORSING BUDGET PRIORITIES FOR AY 2002/2003

"THE PRIORITIES RESOLUTION" AS PER F96-4, 2.2

 

 

Whereas,          The Budget Process Policy (F96-4) calls for the Senate Budget Advisory

Committee to receive the President's general budget priorities, to consult with the President, and to propose a "Priorities Resolution" for consideration by the full Senate that will then guide the process by which budget priorities are implemented in the ensuing academic/fiscal year; and

  

Whereas,         The Budget Advisory Committee has received proposed budget priorities

from the President, has consulted with the President and his officers, has engaged in constructive dialogue resulting in revisions of the general budget goals of AY 01/02 for AY 2002/03; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved,        That the attached document "San José State University's Budget Priorities

Statement 2002-2003" is endorsed by the Academic Senate to be used by university managers and the President as guidelines in making decisions pertaining to the operation of the university (per F96-4).

Budget Priorities

AY 2002-2003

 

The following are the priorities for budget decision-making, in no particular order:

 

·        Improve student recruitment and retention, access to support services, progression to degree, and engender a sense of student accomplishment and satisfaction.

 

·        Maintain and improve the recruitment and retention of high-quality faculty and staff.

 

·        Enhance the professional satisfaction of faculty and staff by improving their working environment.

 

·        Advance the quality of academic programs consistent with the university policy on curricular priorities (S93-14) and accountability goals.

 

·        Enhance the campus climate to promote the principles reflected in S01-13 and the campus climate plan.

 

·        Promote efficient and timely management, organization and operation of the underlying infrastructure of facilities and services in support of the academic mission.
