At its meeting of May 8, 2006, the Academic Senate passed the following Sense of the Senate

Resolution presented by Senator Van Selst for the Executive Committee.

SENSE OF THE SENATE RESOLUTION

HONORING SENATOR DAVID MCNEIL

Whereas Senator David McNeil first joined the San José State Academic Senate in 1977, and

Whereas Senator McNeil has served the San José State University

Academic Senate in many roles including Chair of the Academic Senate in 1981/1982,

Member of the Executive Committee, and Chair of the Professional Standards Committee

for 13 years, and

Whereas Senator McNeil has represented the San José State University

Academic Senate as a Statewide Senator since 1985, and as Chair

of the Academic Senate California State University in 2004/2005,

and

Whereas Senator McNeil has been a key architect of the San José State

University Appointment, Retention, Tenure, and Promotion Policy,

and

Whereas Senator McNeil has brought significant other policies and sense of

the senate resolutions to the floor of the Senate, including guidance

on the planning process for the joint library

Whereas Senator McNeil received the first San José State University

Distinguished Service Award in 2000 for his many years of service

to the University, and

Whereas Senator McNeil is a valued colleague, whom we will dearly miss,

and therefore be it

Resolved that upon his retirement from San José State University, the

Academic Senate thank and honor Senator McNeil for his many

years of service to the Senate, the University, and the California

State University system.
