Sense of the Senate Resolution
Opposing Proposed Name Change
Whereas
a proposal has been made that the
name of this university be changed to
Whereas
such a change was made more than 30
years ago and, in response to the urging of campus and community, promptly repudiated, and
Whereas
Whereas
a merging of that identity into the
faceless CSU will deprive the campus and
community of a venerable link with
its history, and
Whereas
other links, with alumni, with
other institutions of higher learning, with employers and with present and potential funding
sources will be confused and may be impaired, and
Whereas
President Kassing and many others,
including Academic Vice President Emeritus Hobert Burns and the Board of
Directors of the Emeritus Faculty Association, have already expressed their
opposition to any such change,
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED
That
the Academic Senate of San José State University finds and declares that the
proposed change of name
is not in the best interests of the university and goes on record in opposition
to it.
