SS-S08-6, Sense of the Senate Resolution, Honoring and Thanking Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley for her Service to the Senate and to the University.

 

Legislative History:

 

At its meeting of May 12, 2008, the Academic Senate approved the following Sense of the Senate Resolution presented by Senator Meldal for the Executive Committee.

 

Sense of the Senate Resolution

Honoring and Thanking Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley for her Service to the Senate and to the University

 

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has served as Academic Senator for 12 years, and has provided superb leadership through her years of service to the University, and 

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley will continue her service to the University as a member of the Academic Senate of the CSU, and 

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has served as Chair of the Academic Senate for two terms from 2006 to 2008, and

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has brought to the work of the Academic Senate broad and deep knowledge of the University, along with excellent judgment, ethical behavior, fairness, honesty, integrity and carefully deliberative leadership, and in particular

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has served as Senate Chair during a period where the University completed a full review by its accrediting agency, and 

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has provided a role model for effective communication with members of the campus community, and

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has ensured that the processes of the Academic Senate unfold with broad participation and in close consultation with the appropriate stakeholders, and

 

 

hereas,       Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has tirelessly nurtured a spirit of team building and collaboration among the officers and members of the Academic Senate, and

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has demonstrated a willingness to reach out and make an extra effort to achieve consensus and a shared sense of direction and goals, and

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has been a strong proponent for the principles of non-discrimination, inclusion and broad access to education, and

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has been a strong advocate for the importance of sustainability, and

Whereas,   Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley has devoted enormous energy and spirit to the organization of our campus’s participation in the selection of our next university President; therefore be it

Resolved, that the Academic Senate of San José State University congratulate, thank and commend Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley for her exemplary leadership and her legacy of accomplishments.
