SS-S09-1, Sense of the Senate Resolution, In Support of the GE Task Force Report

 

Legislative History: 

In response to an ad hoc faculty group, Senate Management Resolution SM-S08-3 was passed on April 14, 2008. The resolution called for formation of a Task Force to review current SJSU General Education assessment and certification. The task force was encouraged to consult “as broadly as possible with all colleges” and “…consider modification to existing procedures regarding assessment and recertification of GE courses.”

 

At its meeting of March 16, 2009, the Academic Senate approved the following Sense of the Senate Resolution presented by Senator Von Till for the Curriculum and Research Committee. 

 

Sense of the Senate Resolution

In Support of the GE Task Force Report

Whereas:      Assessment of GE courses is mandated by the Chancellor of the CSU system, and assessment of all courses as mandated by WASC; and           

Whereas:      A GE Task Force was formed for the purpose of reviewing the current SJSU GE assessment and recertification guidelines, and to consider modification of existing procedures; and

 

Whereas:      The GE Task Force was formed with representation from each college to ensure a wide variety of viewpoints; and

 

Whereas:      The GE Task Force provided multiple opportunities for consultation with colleges, departments, campus wide forums; and

 

Whereas:      The GE Task Force presented a progress report to the Academic Senate on February 16, 2009; and

 

Whereas:      The responses at all presentations were overwhelmingly positive and modifications were made to the report to incorporate recommendations and input; and be it further

 

 

 

 

Resolved:     That the Academic Senate thank the members of the Task Force for their hard work and diligent attention to streamlining the process of assessment and recertification; and be it further

 

Resolved:     That the Academic Senate support that there be future actions based on the recommendations of the GE Task Force.
