SS-S09-2, Sense of the Senate Resolution, Honoring and Thanking Dr. Sigurd Meldal for his Service to the Senate and to the University

 

Legislative History:  At its meeting of May 11, 2009, the Academic Senate approved the following Sense of the Senate Resolution presented by Senator Kaufman for the Executive Committee.

 

Sense of the Senate Resolution

Honoring and Thanking Dr. Sigurd Meldal for his Service to the Senate and the University

 

Whereas,       Dr. Sigurd Meldal has been an Academic Senator since 2005, and assumed many leadership responsibilities, including the                                                                                              chairmanship of the Instruction and Student Affairs Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee, and

 

Whereas,       Dr. Meldal served as Chair of the Academic Senate for the 2008-2009 academic year, and

 

Whereas,       Dr. Meldal agreed to take over the position of Chair-Elect when the position opened due to unforeseen circumstances, and

 

Whereas,       Dr. Meldal’s experiences at the University and elsewhere in the CSU, as a faculty member and as a department chair, have given him the broad perspective,                           leadership skills and evenhandedness that are exemplary qualities for a Senate Chair, and

           

Whereas,       He has led the Academic Senate through the first year of a new President’s tenure at the University, and

 

Whereas,       He has served as Senate Chair during momentous changes at the University, including the declaration of impaction and the most challenging fiscal environment in                       many years, therefore be it

 

Resolved        That the Academic Senate of San José State University congratulate, thank and commend Dr. Sigurd Meldal for his strong leadership.
