S73-3

ACADEMIC COUNCIL POLICY RECOMMENDATION
At its meeting of February 5, 1973, the Academic Council passed the following amendment to the Interim Retention, Tenure and Promotion Standards and Procedures, as presented by Dr. Theodore Norton.

Resolved,

That the Interim Retention, Tenure and Promotion Standards and Procedures, paragraph II-B-5, be amended to read as follows:

5. The intensity of the evaluation process will vary in accordance with the academic position of the faculty member. Thus granting of tenure requires stronger evidence of worthiness than appointment; promotion to Professor requires a more rigorous application of standards than promotion to Associate Professor, etc.

5. As a general rule, the scope of evaluation and weight of evidence required to support a favorable personnel recommendation will increase with the significance of the decision. Normally, a tenure decision is considered more than appointment, promotion more significant than a salary adjustment, and promotion to Professor more significant than promotion to. Associate Professor.
