SCHEDULING PRACTICES (CLASS LENGTH, TIMES AND DAYS)

S 87-1

WHEREAS, Scheduling practice of many years standing at SJSU is to have classes in 50 minute periods beginning at 07 30 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and 75 minute classes beginning at 08 00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and
WHEREAS, This practice allows maximum use of classrooms on a very crowded campus; and
WHEREAS, Deviation from this practice, especially on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, reduces the number of classrooms needed during prime time morning hours; and
WHEREAS, Deviations also deny classes to students, especially where there is overlap in time, thus making it difficult for students to complete graduation requirements in a reasonable time; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That departments and schools schedule only 50 minute classes from 07 30 through 12 20 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; and be it further
RESOLVED, That exceptions be allowed for laboratory classes and selected graduate seminars; any other exceptions must be approved by the Office of the Academic Vice President.
