At
its meeting of March 3, 1997, the Academic Senate approved the following Senate
Management Resolution presented by Dominique Van Hooff for the Executive
Committee.
SENATE
MANAGEMENT RESOLUTION
CREATING A
METHOD FOR REVIEWING
TWO
REPORTS RELATED TO ACADEMIC PRIORITIES
Whereas, The Provost of
the University has requested that the Senate offer its advice on two reports
related to Academic Priorities: the reports of the Redesign Task Force and of
the Academic Priorities Steering Committee; and
Whereas, Among other
ideas, the Senate retreat suggested that an ad hoc committee be formed to
prepare the Senate for a full discussion of these reports; now therefore, be it
Resolved, A special ad
hoc committee, called the "Senate Academic Priorities Review
Committee" be created as follows:
1. This
committee will be composed of seven Senators nominated by the Executive
Committee and confirmed by majority vote of the Senate.
2. The
committee will exist from March 3 until such time as the Senate concludes its
review of the two reports mentioned above.
3. The
members of this committee will be released from their normal seats on policy
committees. The policy committees to
which they are currently assigned will be temporarily reduced in membership so
that the ad hoc committee members do not count against the quorum requirements
of their (former) policy committees.
4. The
committee is charged to conduct, through campus mail, a comprehensive
Delphi-method survey of all Academic Senators on relevant topics surrounding
the two aforementioned reports. It is
further charged to author one or more Sense-of-the-Senate resolutions for
consideration by the Senate expressing the sentiments uncovered in the Delphi survey.
Resolved, The Senate
shall, at its regular meeting on April 7, as a special order of business
immediately following the President's announcements, debate one or more
Sense-of-the-Senate resolutions expressing its sentiment with regard to the two
aforementioned reports.
Resolved, The Senate
shall schedule a special session for April 21, 2:00-4:00, to deal with matters
delayed as a result of the April 7 debate on Academic Priorities.
