EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MINUTES
May 24, 1999
University Library Board - Reviewed nominee statements and recommended: Librarian Jo Bell Whitlatch, CASA James McNay, ENG Jesse Maddren, SCI Stephen Branz, and SOS David McNeil. In accordance with By-Law 5.2, these members will serve temporarily until the next meeting of the Senate scheduled for September 13, 1999.
The Executive Committee appointed Dr. Sharon Wahl, from the School of Nursing, as the CASA representative for the Board of Academic Freedom and Professional Responsibility, consistent with By-Law 1.7 when only one candidate files a nominating petition.
Meeting dates for summer Executive Committee were set for June 15, July 16, and August 23, 1999.
The Executive Committee reviewed the recommendations from the Lottery Committee and decided not to reduce the amount reserved for diversity grants.
The Executive Committee discussed possible outlets to inform faculty of their option to redo first Faculty Activity Reports if the TA is approved. It was decided that a letter from the Senate Chair should be sent to all departments via email and campus mail with instructions to the chairs to distribute to faculty in their department.
A Naming Facilities Committee has been formed and Bethany Shifflett and Nancy Stork were selected to serve on this committee scheduled to meet during the summer.
A special committee was formed to work on the white paper "Out of Crisis: Restructuring the CSU." Sally Veregge, David McNeil, Mary Jo Gorney-Moreno, and Pam Stacks agreed to serve on this committee. Pam Stacks agreed to chair this committee and an invitation will be extended to Ken Peter to serve on this committee. The Executive Committee requested that the Chair Gorney-Moreno submit an email message to all senators inviting those interested in serving to contact the Office of the Academic Senate.
A referral from Ken Peter was made regarding the Add/Drop policy. This was referred to Instruction and Student Affairs (ISA-F99-3). The Executive Committee agreed that urgency should be given to this referral
A special committee on Improving Communications from the SJSU Academic Senate was formed. Mary Jo Gorney-Moreno, Annette Nellen and Pam Stacks agreed to serve on this committee.
Senate attendance for AY 1998-1999 was reviewed and the responsibility that senators have in participating and representing their college was discussed. It was suggested that a report on Senate Attendance be submitted to the Executive Committee at the end of each semester.
